Software-Defined Media Functions
Industry reference: NVIDIA Holoscan for Media / MXL
- Industry Direction
- NVIDIA describes Holoscan for Media and Media Exchange Layer (MXL) as a way for software media functions to share accelerated infrastructure and exchange live video, audio and data. Its IBC announcement lists a demo at EBU Stand 10.D21.
- Why it matters
- An encoder or graphics function may share compute with other workloads. Operators need to understand both the function and its host dependencies.
- SEYDRA Current Capability
- Canonical systems already distinguish host, application, media function, input and output layers. Holoscan, MXL, container discovery and GPU collection are not integrated.
- SEYDRA Future Direction
- Extend that model to Host → Runtime / Container → Media Function → Media Input / Output, with GPU / Compute dependencies, without treating every function as a physical chassis.
